  • Bye Bye Microsoft Office

    Bye Bye Microsoft Office
Earlier years I used Microsoft Outlook and when I shifted to Mac, I migrated MS Outlook to MS Entourage. All in all, ten years of Microsoft Office slavery. Over the years, I slowly moved away from Microsoft products and moving my data to other platforms. The toughest of all migration was moving away from Microsoft Entourage.

Finally, this day, I decided and migrated to Apple Mail and iCal, replacing MS Entourage. Replacing MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint with Apple Pages, Numbers and Keynote respectively.

  • Leopard Is Here

    Installing OS X Leopard Screenshot

The Leopard is here. I was at the launch. We were issued and had only one hour installing OS X Leopard on all the demo unit. It was pressurising because we had lot of shoppers outside the store looking at us doing installation and rushing ourselves to be on time for the launch.

And the trick to shorten the installation time was to, not to install the 3 to 4GB of drivers by unchecking the option.

  • NAS For My Home

After Setting Up A Wireless Router, Airport Extreme glows in the dark

Got myself a 802.11n compatible router, the new AirPort Extreme.

Beside running my network on N version, faster speed and covering longer distance, another cool reason was I could run a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) on it.

The new hardware is cool. I just plugged in my USB harddisk to the Extreme and I had my storage over the network. I could configured to access the harddisk over the internet through Apple File Protocol (AFP). The Extreme could be enabled for Wide-Area Bonjour too but I could not find any in-depth documentation on the topic so I did not configure it.

Great! After setting up a wireless router at home, now I had my own NAS. My friends could do big files sharing with me when I was offline. This also benefited my mac clients for not lagging and hogging my network bandwidth.

    Channel U programme, 代你看世界代你看世界

Today I submitted my application for the Channel U’s Adventure Clicks.

“What’s that?” I also do not really know. I think is something like the Amazing Race plus Ed TV kind of tour show, where the audience will dictate the hosts to run all over the earth like monkey with hi-tech gadgets that allow remote blogging and so forth?

I have applied and hope to be selected to be one of the monkeys and make this Channel U program part of my ‘The World is My Home’ campaign.

In the application form, I am ask “why choose me”. I say, I am the best and I meet all the criteria.

Why I am the best? Because I meet all the criteria and I have the x-factor for such programme.

The three criteria for the show are:

    1. You must be able to converse in Mandarin. No problem for me, Mandarin is the ‘in’ thing now.

    2. Have an interesting character, a mind of your own, an adventurous attitude and inquisitive mind. No problem too. Since I always have a mind of my own, why not let me be the producer of the show. How about let me select my own production crews too. So me and my team will produce alternative TV show that will capture high viewership.

    3. Being technology savvy with the latest communicative electronic gadgets would be advantageous. If I am a host for this show, I am gonna get my own sponsors. Will get myself Sony Ericsson to sponsor me M600i and K800i for photography, communication and tacit collboration. I will also get Apple to sponsor my team, MacbookPro and iPod to get our stuffs done. I will also get designer wears like, Nike for our entire attire for the trips.

So now, let wait for an interview by TCS. Or is it now call Media Corp? What a lame name!

  • Online Casino Launched

In conjunction with my UME business, I had been secretly building an online gaming market, the online casino with my team since last October. This 13-month project finally went online this month.

We now in the phase one, inviting beta testers testing out our servers and fixing bugs. Our casino was the first and only one, built using the Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Adobe Flash and Flash Communication Server, now known as Flash Media Server that allow multiplayer interaction.

During the thirteen month of incubation, we spent lot of time studying the feasibility of penetrating the chinese market. Secondly we invested most of our resources to experiment the platform best suitable for us for deployment by developing nine different prototypes. After much testing, we decided to go with Adobe Flash, previously known as Macromedia Flash.
