  • Sabbath Tour 2005: Chongqing, China

    Chongqing JiaFangBei

Having spent so much time in southern China, I had finally moved northwest to explore another part of China. When I reach Chongqing and step out of the airport I say to myself, “is just another town”. As the taxi driver drove me toward city, I was surprised to see the place was better organised and the people were more cultured than the cities in southern China. Now I understand why Chongging was separated from Sichuan province.

Now was winter season and I hardly see the sun. At most was sunlight every few days. I saw first light at about eight in the morning, sometimes almost ten in the morning. Nightfall around half-past-six. This place was cloudy and foggy.

Time for me to adapt my new environment.

  • Save Electricity

l was watching the channel TVS3 in Zhuhai and came this advertisment.

Two young couple were quarreling in their house and the quarrel was so bad that the guy opened the door and left. The next scene was the wife sat down on the sofa looking blank.

After a while the guy came back, opened the door and stand between the doorway and compassionately looking at the wife. The wife stood up and smiled happily.  The guy reached out for the switch and turned off the light.

And next came the text message save electricity.

Ha ha! What an interesting advertisement!

  • Time And Tide Wait For No Man

What is your greatest regrets if you die before doing it? What is it that you really wanna do but no time for it? Or you are just giving yourself excuses?

In life, we are so busy with the little things that we procrastinate the big purposes of our life and miss the important things of what we want to do that is deep down in our heart. I used to say this during school days, “we major in minor and minor in major.”

Is there something you really want to do for your kids? Is there something you wanna tell your dad or your mum? Is there something you wanna do at your prime while you can?

Close your eyes and visualise now, for whatever reason, you only have less than 24 hours to live. Use your heart, feel it, tomorrow this time, you know you will stop breathing. Take your time do not rush yourself. Put your right hand over your heart, feel your heartbeats and think again.

Remember! We only live once and everyday the earth is spinning and the clock is ticking. Time and tide wait for no man.

  • My Colourful Hairs

The Hosea Green Hair Style - Green Stands For Faith

I hope all of you like my coloured hair. Many friends are wondering what happen to me. Am I under stress, emotionally breakdown, brain short-circuit, etc.

I want to assure all of you, I am fine. I m just doing something I want to do during my school days but I cannot do it. Then in my army days, I also cannot colour it. But then, I go skinhead fulfilling one of my funky ideas.

Then when I grow up and join the work force, I also cannot colour my hair. Until now, since I am having my sabbathical year, I just do it to fulfill another funky idea of mine.

First, I have green hair, now pink. So what is next?

  • The Purpose Of Law

When we were young, we used to be protected under the wings of our parents just like the mother hen protecting her young. As we grew older we became rebellious and our parents would threaten us to call the police to lock up us if we did not behave or obey them. Then when we became teenagers we realised the police would not put us behind bar for disobeying our parents.

When we joined the world we were scared to break the law. But as our life experience grew, we found loop holes or so called “gray area” to flank the law. When we were exposed to so much of it, we began to challenge the authority.

So, what is the purpose of the law? What is the law for? How should it serve the people?

The law is to serve the people that obey it. If the law no longer serve the people it protect then the law is useless. If the law is abuse, we can challenge it because it no longer protect us, which is the purpose of the law.

What good can it be when the law no longer serve it purpose? It will only oppress the people that govern by it. Then shall we reinstate and challenge the law to serve it original purpose?

Think about it, the law that govern you. Does it protect or oppress you?

  • I Want To Be A History Maker

As a dreamer and do-er of my word, i have fulfilled many of my dreams. Line by line, precept upon precept, my dreams grow bigger and bigger. Now I dream to be a history maker, I want my name to be pen in the history pages.

Many guys like me when graduated and join the working world, one of the first things in our mind is to own a car. First you just want a car and then you want a bigger car, and later a bigger faster car because you are dreaming and your dream of owing your ultimate car motivate you to work harder for a bigger pay cheque to own your ultimate driving machine.

Start small, and get yourself started in fulfilling your small little dreams. As your confidence level grow, you will dream bigger and bigger. Like me, at first I wanted a one year holiday in China, but then my dream cannot be contained because over the years I have been exercising my dreaming muscles and traveling to China for a year is not enough. My dreaming muscles did not stop here because I know I can do more. I am extending my sabbatical holiday to three year and I am planning my trip from China to Russia to Middle East to Europe, from North Pole to Canada, etc… and back to China.

Whether my dream is feasible or not I am still planning. Even dreamers dream, we have to be practical too. I have to settle cross-borders issues such as traveling Visa, my fitness to travel North Pole, accommodation, food, medical support, etc.

My point is, you have to exercise your dreaming muscles and start fulfilling them and your muscles will grow and you will dare to dream bigger and bigger. As your muscles grow, there is no dream too big that you cannot conquer it. Once you set your mind on it, next is to plan and execute it. I have been exercising my muscles so much for the past twenty years, now i am planning to be a history maker. I want the world to know me, I want my name to be recorded in the history pages.

I welcome you to dare to dream with me and live your life to the fullness.

  • Live Your Dreams

When I was a kid, I dreamed to be a fighter jet pilot, imagining myself siting in the cockpit, flying one of the world most sophisticated jets, shooting down enemies planes.

As we grew up, and got more involved with society, we slowly, slowly got distracted by the weary things of the world. And as we matured in life, the world shaped us and we conformed to the world. And we become what we are now.

We lost our childhood dreams, we do not dream any more. We lost our creativity and don’t think as far as we could now. Are you happy who you are now? Are you living the lifestyle you wanted to?

Imagine you are dead and from above seeing yourself in the coffin of your own funeral. Your friends and people that you know attending your funeral are ask to give testimonials of you. What are your friends going to say? Anything good to say about you? Worst still, do you have something worthy for your friends to come and bid you farewell at your funeral?

Without dreams your soul is dead. Dreams and visions are food that keep our spirit alive. When your spirit is alive, your body and mind will response by working on your dream. If you have no dream you are as good as dead man, just waiting in this world for your body to rot and be buried. So stop giving yourself excuses for not dreaming.

Where are your dreams? What are they?

Start thinking today and live your dreams.

  • A World Without Thieves

    As Featured On EzineArticles.com

On my way back to China, I was watching the movie, starring Andy Lau, “A World Without Thieves, 天下無賊”.

Although is just a movie, the story is real and this is the real world we are living in, a world where people cheat to survive.

I have encountered professional con-artists. I have seen how organised syndicate planned and operated to cheat MNCs (Multi-National Corporations) of millions of dollars at the snap of their fingers.

These professional artists are above the law because they know the laws better than the law makers themselves.

I have also witnessed petty thieves just like in the movie. They can climb a two-storey flat wall without tools. They can open locks with commonly used items in our household.

I have also witness professional gamblers that make their living in the casino. These people are trained since young and can swoop mahjong tiles and pokers cards right in front of your naked eyes.

This is the world I know. I always tell people you do not have to lock your doors very securely to protect your belongings. Just lock good enough will do because when you meet a pro, the most advance system you implemented will render useless.

The day I am exposed to the world of tricksters, I lost confident in our society. This world is no longer safe. Everybody works for their own interests. I began to realise how corrupted we are. The so-called code of honor, brotherhood, loyalty, etc are nothing but bullshit. We use words like righteousness, upright, integrity, etc to cover up our hidden agenda. In reality, we are living in a world of morally corrupted society.

How nice will it be to be the naive young man that Andy Lau trying to protect and see the world as a good and peaceful place to dwell in.

Blessed are those that see the world without thieves.

  • My Fried Rice Story

    中文版的故事

About 12 years ago there was a young man, named Hosea, who was then sixteen years old. Hosea worked in a company that organised events and seminars. He liked his job and he very excited about what he was doing.

During that time Hosea got to know a girl called Mimi (not her real name) that just graduated from polytechnic and helped out in the company where Hosea worked. Hosea did not really know Mimi but she treated everybody really nice. She was soft-spoken, very caring, attentive, all the characteristic a man would want from a wife. As times passed they became friends and get along well.

One day Hosea had to be at an event. He and his team were getting the event ready and had not eaten since early morning. He gave his best to the job to make sure everything run smoothly. Evening came and he met Mimi at the event. Mimi saw the team was tired and had not eaten and offered to buy food for them and started asking them for their order.

Mimi asked Hosea for his order but Hosea did not want to eat until the event ended. Mimi insisted that he should eat something and took the initiative to buy something for him to eat. After half an hour, Mimi came back with the food and distributed it. She passed a packet of fried rice to Hosea. Hosea did not appreciate it and rejected the fried rice. Mimi kindhearted soul persuaded him to eat. After a few conversations, the talk heated up and he scolded Mimi, until she cried, for pestering him to eat. Everybody near by took notice of the amplified talk and saw the caring Mimi crying.

Hosea was angry, but embarrassed, and took the fried rice from Mimi. He quickly opened up and ate the fried rice to pacify her. Mimi saw that and stop crying.

The event ended and Hosea went home to rest for the day. He took a long bath and thought about Mimi. Then he lied on the bed and pondered again. He could not sleep. He was disturbed. Tossing here and there, now he felt guilty. To give him an excuse to sleep he told himself that he had to apologise to Mimi.

Next day Hosea quickly went to office and looked for Mimi but could not find her. His guiltiness made him very uncomfortable and could not work. He waited and waited and realized that she did not come to work today. Hosea was down and feeling very remorse. Not to get embarrassed again he prompt for an answer here and there for her absence.

“Mimi and her family went to Malaysia to visit her relatives,” her best friend said. “She will be back next week.” Hosea was very disheartened. He said to himself “never mind, she will be back soon, just away for a couple of days.” But that night, he could not sleep again. He was very bothered by his guiltiness.

Next day, Hosea went back to work again. Feeling bad and emotionally weary. The feeling was like a heavy big stone resting on his chest, breathlessly breathing. Feeling bad again, he comforted himself by saying “she’ll be back soon.” It was one o’clock, time for lunch.

He was about to go for lunch and the office secretary suddenly answered a phone call with a shocking look. The secretary hanged up the phone and announced that Mimi will not be coming to work anymore. No reason was given. Everybody in the office was puzzled. Hosea did not go for lunch but waited for an answer. An answer that nobody knows. Perhaps he was not really keen for an answer but how to apologise to Mimi to clear his guilt.

The secretary answered another phone call. The conversation was something like “Are you sure?”… “You sure?”… “Serious! You are not joking”… “OK!”… The secretary hanged up the phone and went into the boss room. After a while she came out and announced that Mimi and her whole family, except her little brother, died in a car accident in Malaysia.

I was shocked because I was the young man, the Hosea. I was devastated. I could not believe what I heard. I told myself such a scene happened only on TV. “It is not real! It is not real!” I wrestled my mind with many logical explanations. After sometimes I calmed down and accepted the fact. Then one drop, one drop of tears slowly formed and slide down from my eyes, passed my mouth, to my chin and drop off. I cried silently and suddenly my guilt slipped in and it was like a two-edged dagger stabbed right through my heart and pushed in slowly.

The pain, the agony, was unbearable. You just wished you had the power to turn back the clock. God I am not. I could only cry and looked into the coffin to see her one last time. I cried, I cried and I cried. That was all I could do. Now I know how weak we are even though we are created in the image of God.

I looked at her, looking at her sleeping face. “Mimi, I am sorry! I don’t mean to make you cry the other day.” My tears were like flowing river and I was trying to speak properly, “ Will… you for…give me?” “I’m here to say sor…ry”. “Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!” I was expecting a miracle that she would wake up and forgive me. Oh! How foolish I was!

I whispered to her, like a pair of lovers would do in cinema, “Who’s gonna buy fried rice for me when I’m hungry?” My good friend came over and hugged me and walked me to a seat. I sat down and cried again.

Twelve years already and till these days I cannot forgive myself for not saying sorry to her. Every time I eat fried rice I will cry. I will quickly think whom I have hurt today and forget to say sorry. I will quickly patch up with them.

Years have pass and I grow stronger every each new day. If I hurt someone in the day I will say sorry to him before sunset. If I have a conflict with you in the evening I will sort it out with you before the sunrise. I will live a life whereby I will always express myself to those I admire and love and to forgive, forget and move on making each and every day a day of gratitude. I will also go out of my way to make someone’s else day a better day to give to those less fortunate than me. Let us make the best out of each day.

Are you willing to do the same?

This is my, the Hosea, fried rice story.

  • My Top 10 Gadgets 2005

    Dcentral Internet Cafe

I’m running Microsoft Small Business Server as my personal server to help me manage my email collaboration and file management with my peers using Sharepoint technology. On top of it I also run a server-based CRM program to manage my customers. i also enable the web server for my internet activities which is protected by a firewall known as ISA Server.

You need a computer notebook to do everything you want, from photo finishing to video editing, typing letters, email, etc. A portable computer is like a mobile station where you can just deploy anytime anywhere to get your work done. For me, I have my Mac Powerbook G4 as my companion, traveling with me wherever i go. It comes with a slot-in DVD writer that i can do mass storage backup.

The ‘in’-thing now is —-iPod. It serve me as a mp3 jukebox player and portable mass storage device. And most important of all, it’s not just another mp3 player, it is in a class of it own, it gives you the image of “you are above the rest”.

Another great tool is my Compaq IPAQ5450, with fingerprint scan security. It is one of the best in it class. I use it to jot down my inspirational thoughts, ideas, notes, etc. When i am waiting for someone i turn it on to play Monopoly. It is a great tool for spontaneous activities. At the end of the day, you will realise how much work you have done and how much time you have save by using PDA during unproductive time such as waiting.

Mobile phone has another new role. It is a GPRS modem. With my SonyEricsson T630, I can log on to the internet with my IPAQ or Powerbook wirelessly to retrieve email, log in to my server for information and even login to ICQ to chat. I also send sms using my powerbook connecting to my T630.

Webcam is a must if you want to chat online like a pro and make web friends. With a webcam such as my Apple iSight, i can see my buddies online and chat with facial expressions.

See something beautiful, take out my digital camera and snap. If i have a pre-plan event i will bring my videocam to film it. With all these digital-captured devices, I will capture all the memories that one day may fade away from my mind.

I always keep my media cards and mini drive with me so that I can transfer files and share information instantly. Very handy when i want to transfer big files from one device to another or for temporary big file storage.

With bluetooth-enabled devices I can connect easily between my bluetooth toys, for backup, transfer, file sharing, etc. It ease the connectivity and replace the physical cable for connecting devices. Remember to buy gadgets that have bluetooth capability. Another cool thing to do with bluetooth is “bluejack”.

I got myself a stylo Samsonite notebook backpack. I keep all my accessories, cables, etc in this bag. So when i am on the move, i just have to put my powerbook in the backpack and off i go and not worry if i forget any thing behind.
